Dan Sullivan, my former mentor, introduced me to a powerful concept:
“I want what I want, because I want it.”
No justification needed. Simply wanting something is enough. A liberating idea, right?
I recall him sharing this a decade ago. I whispered to my friend, “I want my husband to retire.” She replied, “I just want my husband to get a job!” We laughed.
Ironically, her husband was then studying to be a doctor and is now our family physician for over eight years. My husband is semi-retired.
Dreams unfold in surprising ways.
Let’s add another dimension to this “wanting” exercise. As Brooke Castillo mentioned recently:
If the first question is….. “What do you want?”
The second question is…. “Do you want what you already have?”
Are you still passionate about your current life? Do you love your home, your relationships, your work? Or is it time for a change? To scale up? To scale back?
For the past few years, I’ve been evaluating everything in my life, “re-deciding” if it still serves me.

I simplified my business. I reduced my work week to three days. I stepped back from extensive travel and live events. My husband’s semi-retirement allows us to spend more time at the cottage, where I can work.
This has been a process of actively “re-committing” to my desires.
When was the last time you examined your life and business to reaffirm what you truly want?
I hope this sparks some reflection…
