#SpeakerSuccessTip: Are Your Goals Life Aligned?

#SpeakerSuccessTip: How to Book More Speaking

Way back when I learned about goal setting, I was taught that goals should be specific and measurable and have a timeline.  But today, I have one additional criteria, that they be more “Life Aligned”.  Let me explain.

This past year, I turned 60 (Yay for me, I’m excited).  And I also have been the primary caretaker for my Mom, Sibyl, 95, with Alzheimer’s.  She had a couple of falls at the beginning of the year, which had me re-evaluating everything in my business, including my goals.  She is stable right now, by the way, ❤️ but as many of you are painfully aware, that could change in the blink of an eye.

So, my age and my family situation are two factors.  However, I also have a new philosophy based on a podcast conversation I had with Stephanie Staples about the Swedish word LAGOM.  Lagom means enough.  Just the right amount.

So how much is enough?

This past year, I worked out what I needed to earn and paired that with how much I wanted to work, and the results were awesome.  Hubby is winding his business down, so the timing is good for me.  And as I look back on 2024, I feel so much peace and joy about how I spent my time.

Taking my foot off the gas pedal for the first time in 30 years was massively liberating.

Now, caveat: I know you might be in a TOTALLY different place than me.  Perhaps you are in year 2 of your business, and maybe you have a special needs child who will need you, or like me, an aging parent.  I’m just suggesting that you set your goals while factoring in your life and all that’s going on.  And, if you choose, you can use Lagom as a measuring stick. I realize Lagom may not be a choice everyone will make.

There is no shame in setting goals that work better for you.  In this age of comparison, we see our colleagues and talk about all the big goals we have, but maybe those conversations alter slightly.

Maybe you spend time talking about how balanced you are rather than how busy, busy, busy you are.

Just some food for thought.  Let’s make this an amazing year based on what’s perfect for you!!!

I’ll see you soon Wealthy Speakers!
