Your future self – what?
While attending Dan Sullivan’s Strategic Coach, we talked a lot about “future self“. Which is how I started to get clear on what I wanted in my business.
No work on Fridays, off Mondays during the summer. Taking several weeks away from work to rejuvenate each year. It was all developed through the future self-visualization process.
So we can map out what we want, thinking about our future self in 5, 10 or even 20 years. (Trust me when I say that thinking about what I wanted when I was 80 – in 20 years – was a game changer).
But there’s another step that I learned (albeit loosely) from Benjamin Hardy’s book Be Your Future Self Now that cranks it up a notch. The question is, “What advice would your future self give you?”
This was mind-blowing for me!
My future self said, “Stop worrying so much about finances (it’s all going to work out just fine) and take care of your body”.
Because of the latter, some of the goals that I’ve set out really revolve around health and longevity. For this, I’m following a book by Dr. Peter Attia called Outlive. I have to listen to this book because it goes deep into the science, but I’m excited to be on a healthier path with my 80-year-old self in mind.
So two questions…
- What do you want your future self to look like? And your future business?
- What advice would your future self give you?
When you start making decisions from your future life, things really start to come into focus, and it makes it easier to decide where to spend your time and energy.
I hope this helps.
