When a company hires you to speak at an event, do you simply think of yourself as just another person they’ve hired that will appear on their stage? You parachute in, do your thing, leave and then collect a check?
Or, do you think of yourself as a ‘partner’ with the organization and someone who can add additional value – a resource and problem solver to help them reach their event goals?
In Episode 58 of the Wealthy Speaker Podcast, we are joined by Enette Pauze, CEO of Level 8 Leadership Institute. Enette has a Ph.D from the University in Toronto specializing in Organizational Partnerships and now works as a designated family enterprise advisor. Her clients describe her as a cross between University Professor and Camp counselor!
Enette talks with us about the mindset shift that speakers should make when working with event planners from an ‘event speaker’ to ‘business partner’. She explains how this can easily move you from a transactional relationship to a transformational relationship, which will have more value in the long run.
“We [speakers] are in the relationship business. People buy you first and are interested most in who you are and what makes you interesting. Your value that you have to offer has a lot to do with the number of problems and the importance of those problems that you can solve for people. So having a conversation about the expertise you offer versus the ways in which you do it, puts you on a completely different playing field.”
Enette offers a number of tips on how to not only change your mindset about speaking but also what steps you can take to transition to a business partner with the events you are working with.
I have no doubt that after listening to this podcast, you will begin to make immediate changes to how you present yourself as a speaker and the steps you take working with your next event planner.

I know of two speakers who use this approach when working with their event planners: Ryan Estis and Kindra Hall. If you want to learn more about how it has impacted their businesses (Ryan has a $1M+ business in just over 4 years and Kindra is quickly on her way in just over 3 years), then join us this November 17th to 19th in Minneapolis, MN for a one-of-a-kind event, Accelerate Live 2017: How to Build a Million Dollar Speaking Business.
