Before going to ICON17, the annual Infusionsoft conference, last week, I thought I was doing a pretty good job at using the CRM and marketing machine that I have had for four years. I send out my weekly business and marketing tips, promote our upcoming events and use the shopping cart.
Boy, was I wrong! I was only using 10% of its supreme power.
To borrow a term from my client Elaine Froese, I had a Ferrari in my garage, and I had barely taken it around the block.
Well, my friends, colleagues, clients and loyal followers, that is about to change, and I encourage you to stick around and experience first hand what I have learned! Or, if at any time our new marketing efforts feel too “salesy” for you, simply hop off the list… no hard feelings.
Tapping Into Your Why
There was a lot of talk at the conference about finding your WHY – that thing or things that drive you. Maybe some of you have read Simon Sinek’s great book, Start With Why and have already identified yours. For those who haven’t, I highly encourage you to take some time to figure out your WHY. Here’s why:
Sometimes we have to tap into our “why” to really get the engine started and put things into drive so we can move our business forward.
Here are three important things I realized this past week at ICON:
The first thing I learned is that I want to be a good role model for you. To inspire you by reaching levels of success beyond what I have ever dreamed of. It is pretty scary to say that out loud, but I have often thought, “I have helped my clients earn a million dollars per year, why haven’t I done it for myself?”
There, I said it.
Secondly, up until now I have been practicing “spray and pray” marketing. For those of you who cannot figure out exactly what that means, it is not having an end game in mind when marketing and just doing a whole lot of stuff and praying something works. I would launch a product or a course but not have the next step prepared and ready to go for the buyers. For me, that will require some strategy coaching with my team leader Carolyn Crummey, and I am excited for you to see the results as they come down the pike.
My third realization from ICON was very personal. When my husband John and I met ten years ago, he told me about a time in his life a few years earlier. At age 45, John was stressed out, unbalanced and doing too much. One Sunday, while playing hockey, he felt a crushing weight on his chest that nearly took him to the ground. He skated off the ice and walked slowly into the dressing room. Minutes later, the game ended and one of his teammates, a doctor, said: “Hey John, are you okay?” John told him he did not think so and the doctor grabbed his medical bag, gave him a shot of nitro and rushed him to the hospital. Within minutes he was on a gurney in the emergency room, hooked up to an EKG, and the doctor said: “John, you are having a heart attack right now.” All he could think about at that moment was his daughters. “I have got to call my daughters.”
Well, I am so very grateful to report that John survived that heart attack, got his life back on track and we met a few years later. Hearing him tell that story always scares the bejesus out of me. I decided last week while sitting at the conference that I was going to do whatever I could so that my husband would never feel stressed. He is turning 60 this year, and I would love for him to retire at a relatively young age. He will be able to do the things that he loves and pick and choose his projects while I am doing the work that I love AND earning an income that supports all of it!
What’s your motivation? What drives you to succeed? What’s your WHY? Share with us in the comments below… I’d love to hear what drives you!
For me, helping my husband live as long as possible has lit a fire so hot under my butt that I can hardly sit down!
I am pumped!
