What Does Your Dream Business Look Like?

Close your eyes and envision your ‘dream business.’ What does that look like to you? Having been working toward my dream business for nearly 30 years, it’s something that I think about often.

How often do you reflect on that question? When was the last time you really sat down to think about what your perfect day would look like tomorrow? A year from now? 5 years from now?

Back when I was still working as an agent for speakers (in the early days when I still had a nighttime job working in a bar), I dreamt about this exact life that I have today. One where I could retreat to my lake house to relax and sometimes work. One where I had no limits on how much I could earn. One where I was able to have fun, prioritize my family, and travel as often as I wished.

I am doubly blessed today because not only am I living my own dream, but I get to help other people live the lives of their dreams too. Let me take a minute to share some of their stories.

4 Examples of What Owning Your Dream Business Could Be Like

These are examples of some of my clients who are working toward or have already built their dream business. Use them as inspiration and motivation!

Pivoting Your Career to Chase Your Dream

My client, Jacob Green, has four small children and had a really big (and well-paying) government job. Then, he decided he wanted to begin speaking. His message was about how his life changed in an instant when he tried to help two subway booth attendants who were being attacked. A traumatic brain injury turned his life upside down, and he wanted to share the positive takeaways, to help people “see change clearly.”

Last year, Jacob bravely transitioned from his power job to a more consultative role in order to manage his fiscal responsibilities. Today he is working hard and well on his way to building his dream speaking business.

Carving the Exact Life You Want to Live

You’ve heard me talk about Kindra Hall before so you know she’s a rock star. But last year, Kindra and her family decided to live their dream, and they moved from Phoenix to Manhattan.

Kindra’s husband was able to leave his job and work in the business with her, so that freed them up to live anywhere their hearts desired. And isn’t that the reason we all want to become entrepreneurs…so that we can live exactly the life we want?

Giving Yourself Permission to Dream Big

After several great years of performance mindset coaching for the Minnesota Vikings NFL team, Cindra Kamphoff and her husband just bought their dream house. Cindra has also been speaking up a storm and racking in terrific book sales.  I asked Cindra, “10 years ago, could you have imagined getting this dream house?” Cindra replied,

“Ten years ago, I could have never imagined that I would live here. I am a big, big dreamer. I mean huge! I would drive around my town, deciding the homes I wanted to live in someday. I would drive by this one, thinking ‘that’s too much money’ or ‘that’s too big for us.’ It was almost unimaginable—like something I couldn’t do. I didn’t give myself permission to dream THAT big. That is…until recently. With Jane’s help, I realized anything is possible.”

Sharing Your Unique Story and Message

Orlando Bowen is living his dream. A former CFL football player, his original dream (his football career) came to a crashing halt when two undercover police officers randomly attacked him and, upon realizing his community work as a spokesperson for the police service, they planted drugs on him. Orlando was battered and bruised, yet he was the one under arrest! His saving grace occurred when one of those same officers was himself arrested and charged with drug possession.

Today Orlando shares his incredible message of forgiveness and encourages corporate audiences to be game-changers. He also runs an amazing non-profit helping disadvantaged kids.
